Program for the Study of Cyberbullying

Cyberbullying Cyberbullying is the involvement in forms of social aggression using the Internet and other digital technologies (Willard, 2005). It is a form of the manifestation of bullying through technologies. This includes intentional, repeated and deliberate acts of cruelty, conducted among students through the dissemination of electronic information in harmful and defamatory ways (Belsey, 2005; Garaigordobil, 2011; Hinduja & Patchin, 2007).

In the case of bullying/cyberbullying, we believe that metacognitive skills consist of the initial assessment of those involved (victims and observers) in order to understand the situation, and identify appropriate resources for each case, which in turn, may be modified depending on the situations experienced in cyberbullying. Taking into account the consequences on the lives of victims and others involved in cases of cyberbullying, the coping strategies (online and offline) used by students that are engaged in the phenomenon, are extremely important. Such strategies are regarded as the use of cognitive and behavioral efforts to deal with situations and act on cyberbullying situations that are experienced and / or the evaluative meaning attributed to the phenomenon (a cyclical logic that may change the emotion and, consequently, strategies used in a new episode, in the case of it occurring again).

The behavior regulation is part of a possibility of creation, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of programs aimed at primary prevention and / or secondary in cases of bullying / cyberbullying. These projects aim to provide opportunities for students focusing on the development of self-control of their behaviors, which may include impulsivity, fostering their social skills in a logical well-being among students (primary intervention) and in the choice and use of strategies focused on solving problems. Additionally, we intend to investigate the behavior of observers, emphasizing its importance in maintaining or cessation of acts of cyberbullying from perpetrators

Our challenge is part of a problem that puts students on a virtual island without supervision and with few rules, allowing cyberbullying to evolve, and reaching, even potentially fatal levels. Following this logic, we stress the urgency of research that focuses on possible interventions, which will allow an educational-preventive action, enabling effective action and creating a well-being space, from learning and a healthy social life within the technological realm.
